A journey of purification, forgiveness, and closeness to Allah
Umrah is a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage to the Holy City of Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Unlike Hajj, which is obligatory for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford it and is performed during specific dates, Umrah can be undertaken at any time of the year. It is an act of devotion through which Muslims seek spiritual purification, forgiveness, and closeness to Allah.
“And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah.” — Surah Al-Baqarah [2:196]
Preparing a journey of worship also inspires generosity: many pilgrims give Sadaqah and support orphans, water, and relief before or after Umrah. Roshan Foundation welcomes your charity as you seek Allah’s nearness.
Although Umrah is not a mandatory pillar like Hajj, it holds immense spiritual rewards. It serves as a means of expiation for minor sins and provides believers with an opportunity to renew their faith, reflect on their actions, and strengthen their relationship with Allah. Many Muslims perform Umrah multiple times throughout their lives as a form of continuous spiritual growth.
Umrah offers a profound spiritual experience — standing before the Kaaba softens the heart and renews intention. It teaches humility and equality, as pilgrims stand side by side regardless of wealth or status.
The rituals strengthen patience and perseverance through heat, crowds, and physical effort offered for Allah’s sake. For many, Umrah is a transformative emotional experience that deepens love for the Prophet ﷺ, the Qur’an, and service to others after returning home.
