Donate NowRabi ul Awal holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims around the world. It is the blessed month associated with the birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the final Messenger of Allah and a mercy for all humanity.
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
“We have sent you ˹O Prophet˺ only as a mercy for the whole world.”
(Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107)
Rabi ul Awal gives us an opportunity to reflect on the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his character, his compassion for humanity and the values through which he transformed society.
Our love for the Prophet ﷺ should inspire us to bring his teachings into our everyday lives. Among the greatest of these teachings is the pursuit and spread of Ilm, knowledge.
The Prophet ﷺ transformed a society through faith, character, compassion and education. This Rabi ul Awal, we can carry that legacy forward by opening the doors of education for those who might otherwise be forced to leave them behind.
“He who travels in search of knowledge, to him God shows the way to Paradise.”

The importance Islam gives to education can be understood from the very beginning of revelation. The first revealed verses of the Holy Quran began with a command:
“Read, ˹O Prophet,˺ in the Name of your Lord Who created… Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who taught by the pen, taught humanity what they knew not.”
Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1–5
The first word, Iqra — Read, placed learning at the heart of the Islamic message. Knowledge enables people to understand their faith, develop their abilities, serve their communities and build better futures. Education therefore goes far beyond earning a qualification. It has the power to transform individuals, families and entire generations.
Allah Almighty further reminds us:
“Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees.”
Surah Al-Mujadilah, 58:11
Islam honours those who seek beneficial knowledge and those who make that journey possible for others.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever follows a path in pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”
Sahih Muslim 2699
This Rabi ul Awal, following the legacy of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ can mean helping another person walk that path of knowledge.
