Kaffarah is a form of charitable atonement in Islam required when a Muslim intentionally breaks a fast during Ramadan without a valid reason, or when a person breaks a solemn oath. It is a way to seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and restore spiritual balance.
One primary way to fulfill Kaffarah for a broken fast is fasting sixty continuous days — or, if unable, feeding sixty poor people. A common Pakistan guide for 2026 uses a per-person meal rate so donors can fulfill the feeding option through trusted charities.
“And those who break their oaths after swearing them… they shall compensate by feeding ten needy persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. Those who cannot afford it must fast three days.” — Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:89)
“Whoever intentionally breaks a fast during Ramadan must fast sixty continuous days, or feed sixty poor persons if unable to fast.” — Sunan Abu Dawood
If you deliberately miss or break a fast in Ramadan without a valid excuse:
If you break a promise or oath:
“Astaghfirullaha Rabbi min kulli dhanbin wa atubu ilayh.”
O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for all my sins and turn to You in repentance.
“Allahumma taqabbal minni wa aghfir li dhunubi wa tahhir qalbi wa ja’alni min al-muqarrabeen.”
O Allah, accept from me, forgive my sins, purify my heart, and make me among those close to You.
