Lillah is the Arabic phrase meaning “for Allah.” In charity, it means giving purely for Allah’s pleasure, without expecting worldly return. Lillah donations support charitable causes including health, welfare, community facilities, and projects focused on communal benefit — such as mosques, religious education centres, and institutions that please Allah.
Through Roshan Foundation, Lillah can strengthen programmes that serve whole communities: clean water points, schools, clinics, and relief infrastructure that benefit many families at once.
Zakat is an obligatory charity due from every eligible Muslim on a yearly basis. Lillah is voluntary charity given at any time of year purely with the intent to please Allah.
Zakat has specific rules around eligibility and the type of assistance it can provide. Lillah can be used for a wider range of projects and programmes that benefit people and Islamic institutions — including construction and running costs where Zakat may not apply.
