During the last few days of Ramadan, preferably before the Eid prayer so aid arrives on time.
Purify the individual’s fast and support those in need so they can celebrate Eid with dignity.
Fitrana — often linked with Zakat al-Fitr — is a unique Islamic institution that reflects both spiritual purification and social responsibility. It cleanses the fast, uplifts the needy, and reminds the community of the natural disposition (fitrah) that binds believers.
Although the term “Fitrana” is not mentioned verbatim in the Qur’an, charity, purification, and support for the less fortunate are strongly emphasised:
“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke Allah’s blessings upon them.” — Surah At-Tawbah (9:103)
Fitrana strengthens community bonds by redistributing wealth and ensuring that every member of society, regardless of means, can join the festive spirit of Eid. It reduces social inequality and promotes unity by encouraging every Muslim to contribute according to their capacity.
